Highest residential attractiveness in all income classes

The major bank UBS has published its Housing Attractiveness Indicator 2024. The analysis shows: The city of St.Gallen performs best in terms of residential quality in the Lake Constance region across all income and wealth classes. The "Lake Constance" region comprises municipalities in the cantons of St.Gallen, Thurgau and the two Appenzells. The residential attractiveness indicator is not a beauty ranking. Rather, residential attractiveness is measured on the basis of 35 variables, so that only objective factors are included in the analysis. In general, attractive residential communities are characterized by a well-developed infrastructure, a wide range of leisure activities and an affordable cost of living.

Low housing costs in the city of St.Gallen

In the city of St.Gallen, housing costs and the tax burden are below average for average household incomes and assets, average for low incomes and assets and well below average for high incomes and assets according to the UBS housing attractiveness indicator - despite the fact that the city of St.Gallen has one of the highest tax rates in the canton. This is compensated for by low residential rents.

Good infrastructure, wide range of leisure activities

In all income and wealth classes, the city of St.Gallen performs above average in the Lake Constance region in terms of infrastructure and leisure facilities. The city offers a wide range of shopping facilities, good medical care, a diverse range of leisure activities and easily accessible schools and childcare facilities. The cantonal capital also impresses with numerous cultural institutions, a wide range of restaurants and a variety of sports facilities.
