Advent season in St.Gallen to become more attractive from 2025
The Sternenstadt St.Gallen association and the city of St.Gallen want to improve the Advent experience in St.Gallen from 2025. To this end, a holistic offering is to be created under the joint umbrella of "Sternenstadt". A central element of this is the redesign of the Christmas market. In order to achieve this, an organizer is being sought for Sternenstadt 2025+.
In recent years, the "Star City of St.Gallen" has become very well known internationally and has become an important part of the Advent season for the people of St.Gallen. However, the current offers and events during Advent in St.Gallen are still not perceived as a whole. There is a lack of overall coordination and parts of the offer, especially the Christmas market, are currently criticized by the population and visitors. The Advent experience in the city of St.Gallen therefore has potential that should be tapped into from 2025.
"St.Gallen should offer a unique Advent experience"
To put this into practice, an organizer for Sternenstadt 2025+ is being sought as of January 2025. "We want St.Gallen to offer a unique Advent experience in the future that is supported by the regional players and is therefore highly authentic, personal and inspiring," says City President Maria Pappa.
The organizer should redesign the Advent offering in St.Gallen city centre for Advent 2025 and integrate the existing offerings. In addition, he or she should organize an attractive, atmospheric, urban Christmas market in the city centre of St.Gallen. This also includes the operation of sales and food stalls. The organizer manages the project professionally, generates the necessary financial resources and assumes responsibility for the budget and financing.
As part of a workshop last week, various Advent stakeholders were informed about the procedure and consulted on the framework conditions.
Start of the application phase for the new concept
In the first phase, interested event organizers (agencies, consortia, associations, etc.) can now apply for the new concept directly at www.sternenstadt.ch/2025+ and express their interest. Applications are possible until August 12, 2024. In a second phase, the jury, consisting of members of the association board (see picture above) of Sternenstadt St.Gallen as well as the city administration and tourism, will shortlist a maximum of three applicants for a new concept. The selected applicants will then have until mid-November 2024 to submit a concept and present it to the jury at the end of November 2024. The applicants will receive a lump sum of CHF 5,000 for the development of these concepts.
Start of cooperation from January 2025
The final decision on the winning concept will be announced by the jury in December 2024. Collaboration with the Sternenstadt St.Gallen association will then begin as early as January 2025 and implementation will start.
