News from the starry city of St.Gallen

It all began with the intention of making Advent in the city more attractive. In June 2024, the location promotion agency and the Sternenstadt association then launched the entire tendering process to find the right organizer for the renewal of Sternenstadt. And today it is becoming a reality. Sternenstadt and the Sternenmarkt in particular are shining in a new light. You can expect a new location for the Sternenmarkt, the first-ever Waaghausstube and the decorated fountains in the city center.

This is Roger Tinner's insider tip

Roger Tinner, owner of the alea iacta agency and creative mind behind the new Sternenmarkt 2025, provides insights into his vision in an interview. He explains what makes the Sternenmarkt so special and why St.Gallen is getting a new winter experience. His little tip for visitors: let yourself be enchanted by a quiet, contemplative concert by the lime tree on Gallusplatz. A perfect moment to consciously enjoy the Christmassy atmosphere of the starry city.

What led to the decision to change the location of the Christmas market? On the one hand, the market square will be renovated over the next few years, so a change of location would have been necessary anyway. Secondly, Gallusplatz is much better suited to the quieter, more contemplative part of the market. This year, we are therefore "testing" a market, which is now called "Sternenmarkt", with two locations. Some mulled wine and food stalls will remain around the Vadian monument.

Is the Star City getting bigger? There are two locations this year, but we will be adding to them in the coming years.

What three words would you use to describe the starry city of St.Gallen? Unique, enlightening, enjoyable.

What will be your favorite stand in the future? We have our own stall with products from Heimstätten Wil, an NPO. That's my favorite because I'm also present there on one day or another as a "market driver" for this good cause.

Can the star city continue to grow in the coming years? Yes, but above all in terms of quality.

What is your little insider tip for the Star City 2025? A visit with the family to the candle-making tent (new at Klosterplatz), then a walk through the stalls and listening to a quiet, contemplative concert by the lime tree on Gallusplatz.

News from the star market

This year, the Sternenmarkt St.Gallen surprises with several atmospheric innovations that make the visit even more special.

New location
The market moves to a new location in the city center for the first time. An even cozier and more compact Christmas world is created in the middle of the historic ambience, inviting you to stroll, discover and linger.

Decorated fountains in the city center
For the first time, a number of fountains have been festively decorated by various municipal organizations and businesses. Each installation tells its own little story and gives the entire city center a unique, glowing appearance. It's worth taking a tour, each fountain looks different and creates its own magical moment.

The new Waaghausstube
This year, the Waaghausstube opens its doors in the Waaghaus: an atmospheric meeting place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Sternenmarkt. Here you will find a selected gastronomic offer, space to warm up and a special place to enjoy the Advent season together.
