Sharing energy: The Solar Community St.Gallen

The St.Gallen municipal utility's solar community shows how simple and effective the energy transition can be in our city. Those who take part not only produce clean solar power, but also share it with the community - for more sustainability and independence.

With the Solar Community, St.Gallen's municipal utilities bring together people who want to play an active role in shaping the future. Instead of having to operate solar cells on their own roofs, private individuals, companies or even tenants can participate in community installations. The solar power generated there is fed directly into the community and distributed among the participants. This creates a flexible and solidarity-based model that allows people to participate in the energy transition even without their own roof space.

The power of the sun can be experienced in everyday life - for example with coffee: together with Patrick from St.Galler Stadtwerke, we tested how long it takes to make a cup of coffee with solar power. You can find the answer in our reel.
