Selected with love: Sonja Breuss and her unique assortment in the Kinderbuchladen
The Kinderbuchladen in the picturesque Kugelgasse 10 is a place full of magic and fantasy. Here you will find fascinating stories, colorful illustrations and an owner who puts her passion for books into her work with a lot of heart and soul. We're talking about Sonja Breuss, who has been running the store with dedication since 2013.
Before she became the owner, Sonja was employed at the store. However, her devotion to books began much earlier. She originally worked as a primary school teacher and over the years developed further through advanced training in alternative education.
"No books are looked at as often as picture books."

A selected assortment
For Sonja Breuss, it is a central concern that children learn to browse and play in books instead of just sitting in front of the cell phone or TV. In her store, she has put together a select range of children's books, including timeless classics such as "Letters from Felix" or the "Rainbow Fish.
High quality toys
But the Kinderbuchladen offers not only books. Here you can also find high-quality toys. A colorful wooden rainbow in particular attracts attention. "While adults simply see a rainbow in it, children discover countless possibilities for playing, trying things out and discovering," explains the owner.
An essential part of the children's bookstore is the exchange with the customers. Kindergarten teachers also stop by regularly to get advice from Sonja Breuss. She is happy to make recommendations and help find the right book.
Every year in November, the store window is transformed into a magical dwarf world, which attracts the eyes of passers-by and invites them to linger. A wonderful mood for the beginning of the Christmas season.
"With us, you can find a little bit of an ideal world from the past."
Sonja Breuss, owner Kinderbuchladen
Sonja Breuss likes to describe her store as "a bit of an ideal world from the past. The Kinderbuchladen is a jewel in the Kugelgasse that makes the hearts of children and adults alike beat faster.
Our series "Stories from St.Gallen's trade and industry".
In the series "Geschichten aus dem Gewerbe" we regularly present a business from the city of St.Gallen. We follow the relay principle, whereby the portrayed business always recommends a next business. Sonja Breuss would like to see "La Théière" in the portrait next.
