The Klosterdrogerie was founded in 1953 and taken over by Stefan Fehr in 1987. Stefan and Noëlle have two daughters and one of them is Alexandra, who currently runs the Klosterdrogerie. Alexandra has spent a lot of time in the drugstore since she was a child. The whole family helps out. She is also supported by three employees and two apprentices. The Klosterdrogerie has been at the same location for several years and has numerous regular customers.

Monastic medicine as a core competence

"Our focus is on herbs with spagyric extracts, tinctures, bud extracts and a plethora of herbal teas," Alexandra explains. In addition, there is homeopathy, various orthomolecular mixtures (vitamins, trace elements, minerals and plant substances), Schuessler salts and Bach flowers.

"We produce the monastery medicines in our drugstore according to our own recipes, so we guarantee the highest quality," emphasizes Alexandra Gantenbein-Fehr. The raw materials purchased meet all the requirements of the Medicines and Foodstuffs Act. Production is carried out according to the valid guidelines of the Swiss Pharmacopoeia. We produce a wide range of drop mixtures, spagyric combinations, homeopathic remedies, ointments and gels, as well as herbal mixtures and micronutrient mixtures.

Own production in Switzerland

By producing in our own store, we can stand out from pharmacies and other drugstores, Alexandra explains. Most of the herbs are from Switzerland. However, many plants are not available in Switzerland and therefore have to be imported. We follow the strict legal regulations for the import.

"The customer contact, the direct exchange and the trust placed in me, make my job as a druggist exciting."

Clientele from young to old

"The majority of customers come to the drugstore because of our own blends," says Alexandra. Stefan Fehr, works in his practice as a naturopath, in house, and also always develops new recipes. It is not possible to acquire the knowledge around the mixtures in the school to train as a druggist, but you have to learn it yourself with trial and error and experience.

By talking to the customer, we gain insight into their health difficulties and problems. The proprietary blends are usually composed for one month, after which it is possible to make individual adjustments and optimizations. Since the renovation of the store, younger customers are attracted to the Klosterdrogerie. In addition, the trend towards a "healthier" lifestyle is increasing, which means that younger customers are also visiting the drugstore and testing natural remedies.

In the series "Geschichten aus dem Gewerbe" we regularly present a business from the city of St.Gallen. We follow the relay principle, whereby the portrayed business always recommends a next business. The team at Kloster Drogerie would like to see a portrait of Kinderbuchladen on Kugelgasse.
