What is the St.Galler Haus?

Idea and vision

This year, the City Management Board, a consortium of six municipal institutions in St.Gallen, has set itself the goal of further enhancing the attractiveness of St.Gallen's city center and the diversity of its offerings.

The idea of opening a kind of department store with local St.Gallen products and other offerings had been floating around for a long time. In 2021, the "City Management Board" decided to take the project in hand and realize it. The first step was the search for a suitable location. The house at Spisergasse 12 fulfilled the desired needs and thanks to the owner's cooperation, an interim use could be realized. In parallel, the "City Management Board" sought contact with the initiative "Made in St Gallen" as well as with the art platform "supportyourlocalartist.ch". Together with the " Fachstelle Kind und Familie ", the St.Galler Haus thus offers an attractive pop-up concept that has never been seen before in this way in the city of St.Gallen. Thanks to the great commitment of all parties, an innovative interim use was thus created.

The aim of the St.Gallen House is to show the artistic and economic diversity of the city and the region. Here, local suppliers have the opportunity to present and sell their products, art and services to visitors. Furthermore, the professionally supervised children's craft afternoons create an attractive offer for families or children. The house should live and inspire.

Initiation: City Management Board

The "Sankt" location campaign was initiated and launched in 2020 by the association "City Management Board", the union of Gewerbe Stadt St.Gallen, Pro City St.Gallen, Gastro Stadt St.Gallen, Hotels St.Gallen-Bodensee, St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourismus as well as the location promotion of the city of St.Gallen. The aim of the association is to revitalize and market the St.Gallen city center. Further projects are currently under development. You can find more information here.

In collaboration with

Child and Family Center

The Child and Family Center offers childcare and craft afternoons three afternoons a week. These take place at Spisergasse 12 on the 3rd floor on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Children between the ages of three and ten can participate during the fixed time period from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The number of places per afternoon is limited to 12 children. The childcare fee is CHF 10 per child per afternoon.

Association "Made in St Gallen

The association "Made in St Gallen" is a platform that unites "urban producers" of all stripes - from fashion and furniture makers, soap boilers to high-tech companies and industrial enterprises - under one label. With "Made in St. Gallen", an official designation of origin for St.Gallen products has been created. Various members exhibit their products and services on the first floor as well as in the basement.

Art platform "support yourlocalartist.ch

Swiss artists joined forces during the Covid 19 crisis to create a platform for their works. On www.supportyourlocalartist.ch they sell different works of art. At Spisergasse 12, the artists will present their works on the 1st floor. You can also look over the shoulders of some of the artists as they create new works.
