Innovation in Healthcare, ICT, and Design
St. Gallen is a major hub for ICT, healthcare, and design. Leading educational institutions, a wide range of training and continuing education programs, and renowned companies define this ICT hub in Eastern Switzerland. The healthcare sector is also among the most dynamic industries in the region. With its vibrant design scene, St. Gallen is also gaining creative appeal and future potential.
On the initiative of the City of St. Gallen, more than 50 institutions in St. Gallen are collaborating within the St. Gallen Health network, which was established in 2020. The members of St. Gallen Health are nationally and internationally successful, established, and up-and-coming institutions from the fields of business, education, research, and healthcare, all based in St. Gallen. Through regular exchanges within the network and thanks to the short lines of communication, expertise can be pooled and synergies created.
Through St. Gallen Health, St. Gallen is strategically positioning itself as an attractive healthcare hub with national and international appeal. Short distances, quick access, significant impact.
St. Gallen is known throughout the world in the ICT industry. Starting out as startups, companies like Frontify AG and Meteomatics AG now serve internationally renowned clients such as Lufthansa, Vodafone, and Tesla. Their successful launch is undoubtedly due, in part, to Startfeld. At Startfeld, people with good ideas receive support in launching their startups and gain access to a vast innovation network. A vibrant creative economy is synonymous with urbanity and cosmopolitanism. For this reason, it enhances the city’s appeal to both residents and skilled professionals. Although not particularly high-profile, the creative scene in the city of St. Gallen has developed positively in recent years, with a strong presence in the design sector, accounting for over 1,500 full-time jobs (9.1% of all full-time positions). From the textile industry and the Sitterwerk to established creative agencies and architectural firms, the city of St. Gallen possesses renowned expertise in the creative sector.
The goal is to strengthen the connections among all these stakeholders and increase the scene’s visibility. To this end, the City of St. Gallen’s cultural and economic development departments, along with the St. Gallen School of Design, brought the city’s creative scene together for the second time as part of Design Week St. Gallen.
