Each neighborhood has its own character. In the neighborhoods, a wide variety of associations develop their diverse activities in the areas of sports, culture or recreation. The neighborhood associations play a particularly important role. They organize and coordinate events in the neighborhood and enable encounters that would otherwise never take place.
Old Town Northwest
The smallest neighborhood association in the city offers in its alleys an enormous density of diverse, competent and long-lasting stores, practices, bars and restaurants. A high-class attitude to life, mixed with a rural touch, fills the soul while strolling in this area. The regular meeting of residents, shopkeepers and sympathizers gives an idea of the cohesion of the colorful group. The board strives to support and promote business as well as residential. The newly designed paving of the alleys, has beautifully enhanced the neighborhood.
Bruges
"OUR VILLAGE BRUGGEN" - This is not only the name of the village paper, but Bruggen has remained a village. No matter in which corner you live. Whether you live in the core of Bruggen or in Engelwies, Bopparthof, Hinterberg or Moos. Thanks to the Sittergraben, the sun shines more often than in the rest of the city. The ditch practically eats up the fog. The homepage of the residents' association states: Bruggen offers a lot of quality of life in an urban landscape, good schools, attractive residential locations, innovative companies and the best transport connections to the center of the city of St.Gallen and the surrounding areas: An ideal place to live and work. But it is also an ideal place for leisure and recreation, because these start right on the doorstep. You can find more information about the neighborhood here.

But here people not only work, but also live, alone, couples, in shared apartments or families with children. The residents of the southern old town are people of all ages who appreciate the advantages of the city center and who enjoy the beautiful things - buildings, stores, museums, parks, going out - to whom culture means a lot and who like to have other people around them and exchange ideas with them. The Quartierverein Gallusplatz has made it its business to network these people and to make sure that they find something here above all else: Quality of life. Riethüsli is one of the smallest of the city's 17 quarters, with a population of around 4500. In recent years, there has been a lot of construction activity on the hills, and many young families have moved into the neighborhood. It offers almost everything for everyday life: a school (a new building is planned), the vocational and further education center GBS, a café with a post office, a new train station, an Italian restaurant, the Nestweiher, excellent public transport connections - and on top of that, proximity to nature, forests and hiking trails. And on top, on the Solitüde, the most beautiful view in the city. Despite the Durchmesserlinie, the neighborhood struggles with an avalanche of traffic. Now the neighborhood association hopes for the planned direct connection from Liebegg to the underground node in the freight station. More information about the neighborhood can be found here.

Between the Freudenberg, the Valley of Humility and the Lessweiher is the quarter with village character: St.Georgen. The neighborhood has remained a village with a grocery store, post office, neighborhood pub, bakery and the butcher with the best sausages (we think). From everywhere you are within a few minutes walk in the green. Be it a walk to the Untere Brand or a jogging round over the Gupf to the Wenigerweiher. In summer you can meet in the Drei Weieren for a coffee and cinnamon rolls. In winter the ski lift at the Beckenhalde is a highlight. Southeast
The Quartier Südost is located at the gates of the old town. The actual heart of the quarter is Linsebühl, famous and infamous as the city's former red-light district. Those days are gone, what remains is the colorful mix of residents, the charm and the diversity. Linsebühlstrasse, but also Lämmlisbrunnenstrasse and Rorschacherstrasse offer many stores, businesses, cafés, restaurants and bars. Between the lively main axes, however, there are also corners that are appreciated as residential areas; both by families and students. The city park on the valley floor or the Drei Weieren, which are located above the neighborhood, also contribute to the attractiveness. You can find more information about the neighborhood here.
Tschudiwies Center
Tschudiwies-Centrum is an inner-city neighborhood with the main train station and the main post office. St. Leonhard is the school building belonging to it. There are a lot of stores, insurance companies, banks, businesses and retail trade in the quarter. But also a lot of middle class housing with families and children are populating the schoolhouse and the quarter. The quarter goes from the Otmarsbrücke in the west to the Oberen Graben and from the railroad tracks to the Schneebergstrasse. The former city councilor Nino Cozzio once said:" Neighborhood is home, is familiarity. It creates identity and a sense of security". The neighborhood association looks after the public interests, promotes community life and informs the residents of the neighborhood. Everyone is welcome as a member.
