OLMA 2024: We are St.Gallen!

St. Gallen was the guest canton at the OLMA 2024 , and the capital welcomed all St. Gallen communities . On Saturday, October 12, 2024, we presented ourselves as a lively center of Eastern Switzerland at the OLMA parade through the city center .

Relocation of the host canton

An important date was Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon . This was when the big OLMA parade with the 52 subjects took place. The location promotion team had come up with three themes for the urban subjects: the dancing city, the sporty city and the witty city. Around 55 people from local sports clubs, restaurants, educational institutions and the creative scene helped out.

The dancing city

The "dancing city" presented itself in the first formation. Four free dancers showed off their impressive skills. This was followed by Emil Egger's electric truck, which immediately caught the eye. It was not only large and environmentally friendly, but also artistically decorated - a real eye-catcher. The St.Gallen label "Schwarzmatt" provided a musical atmosphere with Djane Cardino on the electric truck.

A special highlight: during the parade, artists created a work of art live on the electric truck. With the agency "somewhere LAB", Laura Kohler, Petra Hilber, Martin Tiziani and Valentin Hofmann brought color to the canvases. These works are currently on display in Olma Hall 2.0 at stand no. 2.0.25.

Two mobile eCargobikes bars provided refreshments, offering non-alcoholic mocktails from the Kult Bar and treating the spectators.

The city at play

In the second formation, "the playing city", the focus was on the sports city of St.Gallen. Local handball and athletics teams as well as representatives from major events such as the Longines CSIO St.Gallen and the WEURO took part.

LC Brühl athletics simulates sprints on the parade route. In addition, players from the SV Fides, LC Brühl Handball and Valida clubs demonstrated their passing skills. To emphasize the emotion of the sport, handball legend Karin Weigelt moderated the formation and shared exciting stories.

Another highlight was the presentation of a giant collage jersey of the St.Gallen sports clubs, which was created in the St.Gallen teaching studio Couture of the GBS. The collage jersey is also on display in Olma Hall 2.0 at stand no. 2.0.25.

The mascots Gallusbär from FC St.Gallen 1879, Galoppi from the Longines CSIO and Catchy from the Womens EHF EURO 2024 made children's eyes light up. There was also a sweet surprise and information about the UEFA Women's EURO 2025, which will be held in St.Gallen, among other places.

The witty city

In the third formation, the educational and research institutions of the city of St.Gallen presented themselves. The University of St.Gallen, the University of Teacher Education, Empa, the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland and the Switzerland Innovation Park East with the Smartfeld are represented with exciting contributions. They provided insights into practical research and the interdisciplinary collaboration that characterizes St.Gallen as a location for education and research.
